How do I request a Closed Stacks item?

Answer

If you want to transfer the item for pickup in another NUS Libraries (whether item is in closed stacks or currently out on loan), please do intra-library loan instead.

Due to space constraints, we store low use, older journals and books in areas called closed stacks that allows compact shelving and this area is off limits to students. Items which are stored in the closed stacks collection have to be requested online (for students and staff) and we will go to the closed stacks to retrieve the item for you. 

You can request for an item with the location CLOSED STACKS and the status REQUEST ITEM to be retrieved for you.

The request for the item has be made online (for students and staff) and collected at the library where the item is located. For more information on where to collect the item and when the item is ready for collection after a request see this.

  

Requesting of Closed Stacks online

Students and staff can request for Closed Stacks items online using either LINC or LINC+ systems.

If you are searching using LINC follow the instructions below :

When viewing the record and you need an item (Journal volume or book) that is kept in Closed Stacks, click on REQUEST at regular display.

 

At the next page displayed, key in your matric/staff/membership number and PIN.

Click on SUBMIT.

 

A list of all the items (journal volumes or copies of books) is shown. Click on the item that you want to request. Click on REQUEST SELECTED ITEM at the end of the page.

To search for a specific volume, use EDIT on the browser menu bar to select FIND (ON THIS PAGE) and type the year or volume you want in the pop-up window FIND then click on NEXT.

Only one item can be selected at one time. To select another volume of the same journal:

Click on RETURN TO BROWSE and select another volume.

Click on REQUEST SELECTED ITEM at the end of the page.

 

If your request is successful, you get a message: Your request will be delivered to ... when it is available.

 

 

When the item is ready for collection you will be informed via your NUS email.  You must pick up the item from the Loans Desk within 5 (7  for external members) days or the item will be returned to the Closed Stacks.
