PubMed is a free database of biomedical and life science literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. While PubMed might link you to free articles in PMC or other open access or free titles, most items require a subscription, some of which we might not have access to.
How can I ensure that I am able to access the articles in PubMed?
Method 1:
One way where you can access some of the PubMed articles that require a subscription is to access PubMed through the Library Portal:
- First open up your internet browser and head to the Library Portal
- Click on the Database Tab and key in PubMed. Select the PubMed link
- Login with your NUSNET ID and Password when prompted
- Conduct your PubMed search as follows
5. When you come across an article that requires a subscription, click on Findit!@NUS Libraries under the Full Text Links section in the abstract to access the full text of articles from journals subscribed by NUS Libraries.
Method 2:
The second method of accessing articles that requires a subscription in PubMed does not require you to access PubMed via the library portal. However, it requires you to install the Library Proxy bookmarklet.
- First, make sure you installed the NUS Libraries Proxy Bookmarklet on your browser of choice
- Head to PubMed and conduct your search
- Once you come across an article you want that requires a subscription, click on the publisher's link under the Full Text Links section
- This will bring you to the publisher's website. You can then click on the NUS Libraries Proxy Bookmarklet to access the full text
If you are still unable to access full-text despite using these 2 methods, please feel free to email us with the details of the article.
